Wallpaper Revival

When I was growing up in the 70’s in suburban Connecticut, my mother adorned her formal living and dining room with raised gold velvet wallpaper. The pattern in the living room was a large floral pattern and the dining was striped velvet, both rooms complimented with heavy gold drapes with tassels.

Due to nostalgia as well as the modern trend to use wallpaper rather than paint, I am excited about finding the right pattern to accent a wall in one of the bedrooms of my new home. I’ve even seen wallpaper mounted on the ceiling to warm up a room. With all the options, I learned recently that you do not want to mount your wallpaper to an outside corner of the room. This information helped me decide which wall to paper as the accent wall. I also learned that if your wall is textured, any qualified painter can smooth the wall before installation of the wallpaper.

I would recommend looking into wallpaper if you are looking to make some changes on a budget. With the right pattern and color, you could add personality and character to cozy up any room in your house.

With many affordable choices under $100 per roll you may only need to sparingly accent one wall versus covering the entire room. Found online or through a local interior designer, wallpaper is a great choice to spruce up any room with a graphic punch. Below are some images of available patterns from www.allmodern.com
