RURAL HOMESTEAD
This project involved a comprehensive renovation/expansion to an existing 1,500 sq. ft., 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home built on two acres of pastureland southeast of Austin. The original footprint was significantly modified and new spaces were created, including the kitchen, dining, living and master suite. A children’s wing with three new bedrooms and two new baths was also added. The layout includes new covered outdoor spaces added to the front and rear facades to protect doorways from the elements, to create sheltered outdoor seating areas, and to improve the home’s architectural impact. Low-maintenance exterior materials were selected for their durability, and to achieve an eclectic agricultural style inspired by the rural setting. Interiors were designed to be both warm and kid friendly, while demonstrating a high degree of craftsmanship and good lighting design. The finished 3,100 sq. ft. home, a beautiful residence in the countryside, pays homage to its agricultural setting by using inexpensive, low maintenance industrial materials that are finely built, with careful attention to every detail.
