About a year and a half ago, my niece and her husband asked me to design a new home for them. They have two elementary school age kids and a trusty dog. They had a beautiful, 1 ½ acre open lot in Kyle, and were ready to build their first [and probably last] home. I said, ‘Let’s DO this!”

  • Kid Baths

Kid baths. I’ve been thinking about this lately considering I have two small children at home who will share a bath that doubles as a guest bath too. I’m not big on “kiddie” things. My oldest daughter’s room looks more adult than child and the nursery looks like an art gallery—nothing baby about it minus the changing table. So, when I was planning our kid/guest bath, the goal was to design it so it’s both appealing to the kids and totally acceptable for adults.

  • Kitchen As Social Hub

Clients often ask us to help make their kitchens and social spaces more unified. With cooking so central to the act of entertaining, it makes sense to foster them both in the same overarching space. Sometimes this can be an elaborate reshuffle of spaces within a home’s footprint. As a former rental property, this house suffered from disjointed, undersized spaces, poor traffic flow, and an unceremonious connection to the backyard.

  • Finding Value in Your Home Renovation

What is value? Dollars, of course. Quality, naturally. Convenience, maybe…

    Posted on October 30, 2014

The question of value is one that we address on a regular basis here at CG&S. Our clients want to beautify their homes but are unable to make the numbers “add up” in all cases. What this often means is that they can’t justify the cost of the renovation when they have the perception that buying another house would solve their problem for less cost.
