In January 2025, CG&S embarked on its sixth Seasons for Caring project in partnership with the Austin American-Statesman, supporting East Austin resident Carlos Vallejo. Carlos tragically lost his right arm and leg in a boating accident, leaving his home inaccessible and his independence compromised. Nominated by Meals on Wheels, Carlos became the inspiration for a transformative renovation—and we were honored to help.
Led by CG&S architect Marsha Topham, the team designed a fully accessible kitchen tailored to Carlos’ needs. His original kitchen featured high cabinets, a cooktop built for standing use, and limited storage. Marsha reimagined the space with lowered work surfaces, accessible appliances, and an induction cooktop that allows wheelchair clearance—making cooking safer and more enjoyable. Pull-down Rev-A-Shelves, durable flooring, task lighting, and a built-in workspace that doubles as a kitchen table completed the transformation.
Interior designer Morgan Miller helped Carlos select finishes that reflected his love of water. Blue became the guiding accent color, highlighted by a stunning porcelain tile backsplash and rich blue cabinetry that brought warmth and personality to the space.
Project Manager Danny Scott led the build, which began in May. With the help of our skilled CG&S carpenters and a generous network of vendors and subcontractors, the project came to life. Their donated time, materials, and expertise made this renovation possible—and we’re deeply grateful for their support:
